PostSubject: First Review Of Champion...   Sat Jan 05, 2008 4:32 pm

I picked up this months rocksound and was flicking through the album reviews and look what I found!

The Audition - Champion [7/10]
The Audition's debut 'Controversy Loves Company' was joyfully fresh and unapologetic - a barrage of slick energetic, catchy-as-hell pop-rock that remained as gripping throughout. They differenticiated themselves from Fall Out Boy through their more direct, vigorous approach and Detroit-infused riffery. So its a shame that on this follow up they've reined in on the riffs in favour of cleaner pop. Its an even bigger shame that they've given up on most of these new songs by the time they reach the choruses - the verses and bridges on nearly every track are brilliant, and far superior to the flimsy refrains they build up to. Opening couplet 'BASBHAT' and 'Warm Me Up' are cases in point - the forumer grines the album to a halt just as it's hitting its stride, while the latter sounds, depressingly, like a Fall Out Boy cast-off. Worst still, worrying power ballad 'Can you, will you?' pushes The Audition close to Marron 5 territory. Their's enough charm here to redeem some of these misdemeanours - 'Edinboro' is the album's first compleate song riveling the big hitters on 'Contoversey Loves Company' while 'Make It Rain' finaly lets the guitars off the lesh, overall though, this is the sound of a band in transition seeking a rounte into the mainstream and not quite finding it. Yet.
For fans of: Panic! at the disco, Fall Out Boy, The Sleeping

Singles reviewed by Moose and Padge from Bullet For My Valentine
Warm Me Up - The Audition [6/10]
Padge: Thats Alexisonfire isn't it?
Moose: Hang on. lets give it another blast. Its not Elliot Minor is it? I reckon its alright, but personaly I wouldn't go out and buy it.
Padge: I like it, but its not my cup of tea, it needs to be heavier for me personaly.

Ok, its a bit of a luke warm review.
Opinions............?

:sighs: Not everyone is going to like it. But I can't even comment because I haven't heard it.

Basbpat? Unless they changed it, this magazine lost credit with me when they couldn't get BASBHAT right.

Yeah, not everone is gunna love it...
Thing is..... They didn't write very highly of it. But they gave it 7/10 which is pretty good. I mean there were plently of reviews on the page that got like 1 or 2.
So I guess it could be alot worse.
And it really doesn't matter what they think anyway. Its my opinion that counts to me.
Does amercia get rocksound magazine?
